The death of James Walker, an inmate at the Cummins Unit in Grady, has been referred to the State Police after he died from a head injury at a local hospital, according to a news release from the Department of Correction. It is not clear, said ADC, whether the head injury was caused by a fall or was from assault.

This is the fourth inmate death referred to State Police this month.

PINE BLUFF – At approximately 11:43 a.m. this morning, Inmate James Walker #141678 was transported by ambulance from the Cummins Unit in Grady, AR to an area hospital for treatment of a head injury. It is unclear at this time, whether or not Inmate’s Walker’s injury was the result of a fall or the result of an assault. However, the Arkansas State Police was notified of the incident by the Department and will conducting an investigation. The Department’s internal investigation is ongoing.
