The MacArthur Museum of Military History reopens its doors Saturday, Sept. 29, after a nearly six-month hiatus for interior renovations. The Museum, established in the historic Tower Building of the Little Rock Arsenal — the birthplace of General Douglas MacArthur — features a collection of artifacts, photographs, weapons, documents, uniforms and other items that depict the story of our Arkansas’s military heritage from the territorial period to the present.
The reopening coincides with the 125th anniversary of the 36-acre park, Little Rock’s first municipal public park. In celebration, The MacArthur Park Group will host a Vintage Military Vehicle Show, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with music by the 106th Brass Quintet and Funkle Sam; a history walk through the park with activities from the Arkansas Arts Center, the Central Arkansas Library System, Museum of Discovery, the Firehouse Hostel and Museum and Little Rock’s Aesthetic Club, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and grilled hot dogs from Woodmen Life for the first 400 visitors, 11:30 a.m.
At 4 p.m., the celebration turns into a German Biergarten, with live music from BnB Polks, local brews available for purchase and bratwurst plates from First Lutheran Church, $10.
