Among the things you don’t know unless you see the back end of blog administrative controls: Though most blog items cycle off the main page into archives after a day or so and essentially go defunct, that is not always the case. Devotees bookmark favorite items and sometimes circle back periodically for an additional comment.

But there’s never been anything quite like an item I posted back in May 2006 about charges filed against a Virginia cheerleading coach who’d once worked in Arkansas. The item has become a forum for parents, cheerleaders and others and has carried through the prosecution of the case. With new posts today, it has piled up 331 comments.

It outstrips even the LISA Academy thread, which became an open forum on the charter school’s staff and policies, and the infamous 2006 lt. gov. thread, whose vituperative comments contributed to our decision to have a registration process.
