No official word has been received here, but a representative of gas royalty owners said Gov. Mike Beebe put out word last night that a compromise had been reached on a natural gas severance tax increase and it would be announced at a news conference today.

Presumably we can hope that Beebe will propose a more meaningful tax than what the greedy royalty owners have said they’ll “settle” for.

UPDATE: Beebe spokesman Matt DeCample said there is NO news conference scheduled on this matter. But the sides are talking again.
