Seems like John McCain is opening with the Republican Party’s usual solid south strategy and that you can add Arkansas to his list of early stops. A reliable source says he’ll be here with Bush July 1 for a fund-raiser. If this turns out to be true, it’s a little bit embarrassing to be perceived as the one state in the union — well maybe in addition to Utah — where McCain can risk being photographed with the failed president.

Maybe they’ll do it like Bush’s Cheney’s last foray to the Junor League building, under wraps, shielded from cameras. Will bags be issued to attendees to wear over their heads?

UPDATE: A Republican operative says my source on this “doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” In terms of future campaign events in Arkansas, I’d give the edge to this source (the Republican operative). It doesn’t negate my musing, however, on the value of public appearances by the 25 percent man.
