The Coalition of Little Rock Neighborhoods website is worth a look if you’re interested in the future of the Lake Maumelle watershed. CLRN has been pushing hard for the brokered watershed management plan produced by months of study and participation of everyone from the water utility to developers to environmentalists. County Judge Buddy Villines has rejected this in favor of a dramatically watered down proposal, much friendlier to major developers.
CLRN leader Kathy Wells says Republican Phil Wyrick, who’s opposing Villines this year, has thrown his support to the more comprehensive watershed management plan. That is producing support for Wyrick among members of the group, a number of them not generally inclined to support Republicans. Interesting.
PS — Great minds think alike. The Arkansas Project this morning has a report on a Wyrick fund-raiser. Mostly familiar Republicans, but also including Democratic state Rep. Pam Adcock and former City Director Barbara Graves, who served alongside Wyrick’s wife, B.J., on the city board.
