Tuesday talk here. Also, in the spirit of the election season and hopeful signs about young voters, I pass along this note from my e-mailbag:

Conservative Lyon College,  located in Batesville, home of professor and Dem-Gaz right wing columnist Bradley Gitz, apparently does have a progressive streak.  Friday, Oct.24 students will sponsor “Baracktober Fest” with all proceeds going to the Obama campaign. Speakers begin at 8 p.m. and live music by “Frown Pow’r” begins at 10 p.m.

[There was a full page ad in the Times promting Baracktober Fest last week.]

Lyon students attended the Obama rally at the State Capitol last Friday and handed out fliers promoting the event. This was a gutsy move on the part of the students who attend the small private school. In addition to Gitz, past board chairman and benefactor Frank Lyon Jr. and  currrent board chairman Ray Lacroix are strong Republicans.

However, Lyon’s pro-Republican reputation apparently is not a selling point with new students. Freshman enrollment, we’re told, is significantly down.  Students also say that some  faculty members  are displeased with the college’s partisan slant.

Roar, Lyon, roar.
