FINANCIAL WOES: UCA VP Robert “Bunny” Adcock discusses them.
The UCA Board of Trustees discussed a list of challenges at its meeting Friday. The majority of discussion centered around finding a new president after Lu Hardin’s unceremonious departure. In an effort to reach out to the faculty (get on their good side), board member, and now board chairman, Rush Harding said he wanted the faculty Senate to have a say in who is named as a third co-chair for the presidential search committee. The motion failed. The co-chairs of the search committee will be Drs. Jeff Faris and Jerry Manion.
The board skipped one agenda item — a real-estate exchange between UCA and HDR Properties LLC, of Little Rock. The deal would ultimately involve the construction of 100 apartments, by HDR, that UCA would then lease and use for student housing. You can see a more detailed description of the deal here (Numeral VI, letter E). UCA administrator Jack Gillian said details still had to be worked out and it would probably come up at the next scheduled board meeting in February.
Robert H. “Bunny” Adcock Jr., interim vice president for financial services, talked about tackling UCA’s financial troubles. He said said he wouldn’t say the university was experiencing a shortfall, but simply a lack of revenue to cover current expenses. Hmmm….
