A faithful reader is as fascinated as I am by the Somalian pirates whose latest target was a cruise ship, Oceania’s Nautica (shown in my photo in Hong Kong last year). Here, the Weekly Standard offers an aggressive strategy for dealing with this “asymetrical” terrorism.

When I was a passenger on the Nautica, I shook hands with the ship captain credited with using what tactics he had at hand to defeat the pirates. How he outran a small boat at 18 knots still eludes me.


I’d travel again, though an itinerary along Africa’s eastern coast might give me a moment’s pause.
