John Brummett today is further explaining his defense of Robbie Wills’ dishonest campaign mailers that attack Joyce Elliott as a dangerous extremist. No further defense of Wills, but a wish for more plain-spoken liberals.

My point was that, while the mailer was quite hyperbolic and hysterical, at least it was based on a factual record of legislative votes and therefore was a salvo that Elliott could have better responded to with substance and proud command, rather than by finessing her positions and crying foul.

But why, Elliott’s supporters ask, did I choose to write about my dissatisfaction with Elliott’s response instead of with outrage over Wills’ desperate distortions?

It’s because I’m inured to candidates’ desperate distortions. Has anyone else been watching Blanche Lincoln and the labor unions?
