According to KATV Assignment Editor Angela Rachels, the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission voted today to shut down a natural gas drilling waste injection well, run by the company Deep Six Water Disposal Services, near Greenbrier. As we reported in this week’s print edition, yesterday the commission gave notice that BHP Billiton, another company operating in the area, volunteered to shut down two wells by September. The U.S. Geological Survey has said the number of earthquakes in the area near Guy and Greenbrier has significantly decreased since a moratorium was placed on these wells in early March. The commission also voted to impose a moratorium on all new wells in the area. The moratorium will be in effect until a formal administrative rule is adopted by AOGC. Gavin Lesnick has more here.
