Democrat Chad Causey, who was defeated by Republican Rick Crawford in the 2010 race for 1st District Congress, has put aside thoughts of trying again in 2012.
“After much prayer and thoughtful discussion with my family, friends and supporters, I am no longer considering a run for Congress in 2012. I am humbled by the number of Arkansans offering encouragement to run but I must do what is best for my family at this time.
As for the future, I have not run my last race. I still believe strongly in public service and will pursue other avenues of serving Arkansans in the months and years ahead. The fight for common sense values isn’t over, it is just beginning.”
Who does that leave? Likeliest so far is Steve Rockwell of Jonesboro. Others mentioned include Prosecutor Scott Ellington of Jonesboro (the recent WM3 decision perhaps a factor against); L.J. Bryant, who lost a land commissioner’s race in 2010 and more likely to be running for state legislature, and Sen. Robert Thompson of Paragould, most likely to stay put.
