Just watching limbs ice up and berry-laden hollies crack under the additional weight. A little bleary from food, too. Here’s an open line, with some news items:

* PEABODY HOTEL FIRE: A kitchen fire about 8 a.m. this morning, apparently linked to a broiler, caused major damage to the Peabody Hotel kitchen. Several reports put the damage to kitchen, appliances, ductwork and wiring at $1 million. The report from Channel 4:

At around 8am a grease fire started in the main kitchen of the Peabody Hotel. Guests and workers were evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

However extensive damage in the kitchen forced the hotel to cancel Christmas brunch and room service.

Peabody Sales and Marketing director Bruce Skidmore says they’re hoping to re-open their restaurants, with health department approval tomorrow at 2pm .

No ducks were hurt.

Channel 11 has a photo of smoke billowing from the building.

* SHOOT EM UP: Those weren’t firecrackers but many gunshots welcoming Christmas day shortly after midnight last night at Real Rock Ryders motorcycle clubhouse at 2220 Wright Avenue. When officers responded to a disturbance with gun, Sgt. Cassandra Davis said, they arrived to see people running from the building screaming. They quickly found one juvenile, conscious and talking, with a gunshot would near her ear and another juvenile shot in a finger. A third victim, with a wound in the leg, was found at Wright and Dennison. Inside the business, officers learned that three more juveniles had been shot or injured and taken to hospitals by private cars.

On December 25, 2012, at approximately 0008 hours, officers respnded to 2220 Wright Avenue ( Real Rock Ryders) for a disturbance with a weapon. Upon officers arrival they observed multiple people running from the business screaming. Officers made contact with Juvenile and Juvenile who both appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds. Juvenile was observed to have a wound to her head near her ear, however, she was conscious and talking. Juvenile had been shot in a finger on his right hand. A third juvenile was located just north of the interseciton of Dennison and Wright Avenue. The third victim stated he had been shot while inside the business. He was observed to have a gunshot wound to the lower right leg. The victim with the wound near the ear and the victim with the wound to the lege were transported by MEMS and the victim with the wound to the finger was treated on scene and released. One was shot in the knee; another was shot in the chest and arm, a third person was hit by a car as she attempted to flee. One of the wounded was listed in critical, but stable condition. Other wounds were less serious.

Officers secured numerous witnesses who had been inside the business at the time of the incident. Major Crimes detectives responded as well as CSSU. It was later determined there were three other victims who had been transported by private vehicle to local hospitals, all were juveniles. One had been shot in the left knee, One shot in the left chest and arm, and the last had been struck by a car while she was attempting to leave the scene. two were treated in the ER and released. The victim shot in the chest underwent surgery for her injuries and is listed in critical but stable condition. Police were looking for a couple of Cadillacs and a Crown Vic spotted motoring away from the shooting scene.
