The line is open. Closing out:

*NEWSPAPERS FOR SALE: Hard on the news of the Boston Globe’s sale for a bargain basement $70 million (after the New York Times purchased it for more than $1 billion) comes the stunning news that Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has bought the storied Washington Post for $250 million.

* ATTORNEY GENERAL: NO GUN SECRETS: The question of whether the Clarksville School District can send nearly two dozen staff members with concealed weapons into classrooms in the fall remains something of an open question. But Attorney General Dustin McDaniel issued another related opinion today and I don’t think Superintendent David Hopkins can find any way to parse around this one:

Requestor:

Legal Counsel, KHBS-TV (NW Ark)

Opinion:
Is the decision of the custodian of records to deny release of the names of school district staff employees who are members of the District’s Emergency Response Team consistent with provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”)?

RESPONSE: No.

Hopkins has resisted saying precisely how many teachers were trained, which ones were trained and which schools they’d be working in. Of course the FOI law doesn’t allow this. At a minimum an FOI request of those who received the $1,000 stipend should be readily available under the FOI.

Any minute now, some Republican or concealed carry fan will be calling for secrecy about public employees who carry guns into schools.
