Shelli Russell at MySaline.com breaks the news that Bruce Pennington is resigning as Saline County sheriff.
It was the right decision following his guilty plea on public intoxication and resisting arrest charges. Hardly the person to be in charge of the facility that must cooperate with the police agency that arrested him.
Note that no Republican Party official ever called for the Republican sheriff’s resignation before or after his conviction. His plea bargain was worked out with a Republican prosecutor, Cody Hiland, who did observe that the sheriff had compromised public trust by his actions. Doyle Webb, the Republican Party chair, who lives in Saline County and who brought Pennington into the Republican fold? Crickets.
The Saline Quorum Court will appoint a successor to serve until the next election.
