Leslie Peacock reports the news on her Rock Candy blog that Texas has decided, 23 months after the fact, not to prosecute Alice Walton on a DWI arrest.
The billionaire Walmart heiress and Crystal Bridges museum creator was arrested after being stopped driving back to her ranch from a birthday celebration in Fort Worth. She refused a breath test.
The trooper who arrested Walton has been suspended and can’t be called to testify. Said Walton’s attorney Dee Kelly:
“Ms. Walton is pleased that the matter has been completely and correctly resolved without charges being filed.”
Shortly after the arrest, Kelly had said Walton “accepts full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and deeply regrets it.”
UPDATE: Information is not readily available on why the trooper was suspended. The Weatherford Democrat, which first reported the story, said he was suspended in February “pending the outcome of an internal investigation involving allegations of misconduct…”
