KAIT reports an investigation of the fatal shooting by Paragould police of a man armed with a knife. A few more details at police website.

State Police statement:

Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating a law enforcement officer involved shooting incident that occurred in Paragould yesterday (Thursday, October 3).

Paragould police officers responded to a disturbance about 5:50 PM to an apartment located in the 600 block of West Bertig Street.

On their arrival local police officers were met by Timmy Dewayne Myrick, 37, who reportedly advanced on the officers while armed with a butcher knife.

Officers fired on Myrick after he reportedly refused to comply with commands to stop and drop the knife.

Myrick’s body has been sent to the State Crime Laboratory for examination.

State Police Special Agents are continuing to investigate the incident and will submit their findings to a local prosecuting attorney to decide if deadly force was used in a consistent manner with state law.
