Stephens Media broke the news this morning that the State Police had fired a state trooper, Cpl. Tom Weindruch of Yellville, for misconduct.
Among others, Weindruch commented on his Facebook page that Republican State Rep. Andy Mayberry was a “fool.” (For proposing that ASU play UA in football.)
He also was cited for harassing a Flippin school custodian, apparently because he didn’t like the way the custodian had responded in an earlier incident when Weindruch’s wife had questioned the custodian about the way he was collecting trash. Weindruch detained the custodian for an “investigation” of driving his pickup on a sidewalk, which was not a public sidewalk but on school property.
These incidents follow six other disciplinary episodes for Weindruch that resulted in warnings, reprimands or, in one case, a suspension. He was suspended for improper conduct as a result of his December 2007 arrest of Bill Lawson, a Stephens Media reporter, who’d been trying to take a photo of a fire.
Weindruch can appeal the termination.
