SEND IN THE PLOWS: More people and equipment are the way to avoid icy traffic jams, highway boss says.

Legislators called Arkansas Highway Director Scott Bennett before the Joint Transportation Committee today to demand an explanation for what they perceived as a poor response to winter weather that left thousands stranged on east Arkansas interstates last week.

Simple: Money.

Bennett said all he needs
is more equipment, people and salt. He said Missouri — widely cited as doing a better job than Arkansas in the recent storm — has more people and equipment to cover a smaller area.
