The AP reports that Mike Ross today attacked Asa Hutchinson, his likely Republican opponent in the race for governor, for Hutchinson’s role in the impeachment case against then President Bill Clinton. Then a representative in the U.S. House, Hutchinson served as one of the prosecutors during the impeachment trial in the Senate. 

“For an Arkansan to say ‘Send me to remove Arkansas’s only president from office’ shows how partisan he is,” Ross told the AP. Hutchinson responded that it was “ancient history.”

The Natural State’s raffish native son remains popular but it’s unclear whether Clinton coattails move the needle in a reddening state. The former president has been helping Ross with fundraising.
