The Little Rock Police Department didn’t have to look hard for the perpetrator of a pre-dawn auto burglary on Cumberland Street this morning, because they say the man was still at the scene, passed out inside the car.
No, this is apparently not an April Fool’s Day prank by the LRPD. According to an email from spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen, officers responded at around 5:30 a.m. to a report of an auto break-in in progress at 516 Cumberland Street., only to find a man they have identified as James Lee Barry, 31, passed out drunk in the driver’s seat of the car with a screwdriver in his hand. The owner of the vehicle told police that when she came out to get in the car early this morning, she’d found Barry asleep inside. The woman told investigators that she tried to wake Barry up, “but he gave her the finger and went back to sleep,” at which point she called the cops.
Officers took Barry into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest, police said, Barry was too drunk to give a statement, so he was transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Center, charged with breaking or entering and public intoxication.
