Maumelle High School was placed on lockdown this morning around 11 a.m. after police responded following a report of a student with a handgun. After a search, police said, an 18-year-old senior was arrested after a small-caliber pistol was found in a classroom shelf. The lockdown has been lifted as of this writing, KTHV reports. 


UPDATE: Police have identified the student who was arrested as James Zantrese Austin, 18. Police say he will be charged with possession of a firearm on a school campus, which is a felony.
