The Little Rock Police Department is seeking a man in connection with the death of a 20-year-old killed at an apartment complex on North Bryant Street last night.

Officers responded to the Park Heights Apartments at 1701 N. Bryant Street last night around 7:30 p.m. in response to a call about a person shot in the complex. On arrival, officers found Bernard Sherrod, 20, lying in the grass near an apartment building, with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. Sherrod was transported by ambulance to UAMS, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they are currently looking for Darrell Lamont Freeman, Jr., 20, in connection with the shooting. The LRPD is circulating a flyer which says he was last seen in the vicinity of 12th Street and Fair Park Boulevard. An “Officer Safety Alert” attached to the flyer in red says Freeman should be considered armed and dangerous.

Sherrod’s death marks the sixth death classified as a homicide in the city in seven days: Debbie Bush, 56, a Little Rock School District employee found dead in her home near John Barrow Road on April 15; Lemen Arana, 24, who police say was shot in the head by her boyfriend while sitting in a car in Southwest Little Rock on April 16; Lenard Montgomery, 25, shot at an apartment complex on Mabelvale Cut-Off Rd. during an argument on April 18; Joel Todd Payne, 50, a former Little Rock Police Officer who police say died from as-yet-unspecified injuries sustained during an altercation with a man who chased and tackled him after Payne allegedly tried to commit arson at the man’s Bragg Street home on April 18; Kenneth Patterson, 61, who police say was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife at their home on E. 7th Street on April 18, and Sherrod.

UPDATE: Freeman surrendered Tuesday evening.
