David Koon is tracking the path of tornado damage and coming across the usual quirks of fate in a tornado in which some people and places are devastated and others are spared.
Gov. Mike Beebe told at his Mayflower news conference of the death of a woman whose safe room survived the storm, but she was fatally injured by a collapsed door, though the room withstood a blast that took the rest of the house.
At Lifeline Fellowship Church on Interstate 40 in Mayflower, David found the heavy concrete block building, totally destroyed. Bailey Butler, who has attended the church since he was a boy, was helping salvage audio equipment. No injuries or fatalities in the church so far, he said.
“Maybe it’s just God’s way of saying we need to be someplace else, you know?” he said. “He works in mysterious ways.”
