A Fort Smith police officer and his wife have been arrested in Oklahoma on charges of child endangerment and intoxication in an episode involving poor handling of a firearm. And he’s resigned.
We’ll let 40/29 take it away:
Deputies said Naaman Adcock pointed a gun at a 5-year-old’s head.
The incident report noted that a young girl went to a neighbor’s house and said Naaman Adcock threatened her brother.
But Tabatha Adcock said what’s in the report is wrong.
“No, it wasn’t loaded and he didn’t hold it to his head,” said Tabatha Adcock.
Tabatha Adcock said she and her husband had been drinking and were upset over the recent loss of a baby.
The report said the couple also fired shots inside the house.
“The only thing that was done wrong was leaning your hands outside of the window to shoot off a gun. We should have actually stepped outside. That’s it,” said Tabatha Adcock.
Adcock resigned from the Fort Smith Police Department today. As a trained police officer, he might be in demand for one of the new armed security positions many school districts in Arkansas are hankering to fill.
