I just took a look at the Little Rock City Board agenda for this week. I expected to see the proposal for a 24-hour Mapco convenience store and gas station at Third and Broadway because it was on the roster of last week’s agenda-setting session. It’s not listed on the agenda. I’m inquiring.
UPDATE: I’ve learned the Mapco proposal was delayed until July 1 because several board members will be absent Tuesday. Eternal vigilance is necessary on this.
People who count heads well have told me they thought the proposal lacked majority Board support despite its inexplicable approval by the Planning Commission. The city’s professional planning staff opposed the use of the former bank property as have a number of public officials with offices nearby and neighborhood groups.
A friend who loves Slim Chickens will be happy to know the Board is to consider Tuesday an ordinance to allow a driveway variance for construction of a new branch of the chain restaurant at Cantrell Road and Keightley Drive.
