The Democratic Party will roundup big names from the past and 2014 candidates at a dinner Saturday at Cajun’s Wharf focusing on women and issues important to them — such as family stability through adequate safety net programs and education, (from pre-K on, Mr. Hutchinson).
It’s being called the Jimmie Lou Fisher-Lottie Shackelford Dinner, after the former state official Fisher and Shackelford, a longtime party leader. First Lady Ginger Beebe will speak, along with Sen. Mark Pryor and Mike Ross, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee.
Former first ladies Betty Bumpers, Barbara Pryor and Betty Tucker are expected as well as Gov. Mike Beebe and congressional candidates Patrick Henry Hays, Jackie McPherson and James Lee Witt.
Speaking of big names and congressional candidates:
Former Congressman Marion Berry will host a fund-raiser for 1st District candidate Jackie McPherson of Heber Springs at 5 p.m. Sunday at his farm in Gillett. Gov. Beebe will be on hand along with former Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater.
