Josh Berry at Channel 4 provides this memo from the state Correction Department on the search for Timothy Buffington, a convicted murder, who escaped from the Pine Bluff unit on Saturday.
The Arkansas Department of Correction is continuing efforts today in the area of Princeton Pike near the prison grounds to locate Timothy Buffington.
Our preliminary investigation shows:
Bufflington broke into a safe room at house located on prison grounds of the Pine Bluff complex and obtained a shotgun. The door was deadbolted and Buffington managed to kick the door frame out to gain access. Buffington was doing yard/janitorial work at the house.
He confronted a woman who lives at the residence and attempted to get her to drive him off prison grounds. She managed to get away from him and run to Randall Williams Correctional Facility for help.
Video surveillance shows that Buffington obtained a camouflage hat and clothing. Me may or may not be wearing these items.
ADC continues to focus on public safety and capturing Buffington and will conduct a full investigation on the issues surrounding his escape when he is back in custody.
Buffington, 47, has been in prison since 1999 for killing his ex-wife as she sat in her boyfriend’s truck in Booneville. They’d been having a child custody dispute. He was serving a 20-year sentence and was a trusty because of a good disciplinary record with no past escape attempts.
UPDATE: KATV has a recording of the 911 call from the woman present in the robbery. Dramatic stuff. She tells a dispatcher of Buffington: “He just wanted to go somewhere and think.”
UPDATE II: Fox 16 has posted a video of Buffington attempting to get in a door. It’s unclear what’s happening. He appears to already have a shotgun in his hand at some points in the video.
