News and tweets converged for me this morning.

* SEXUAL ORIENTATION: The two Texas Republican senatorsJohn Cornyn and Ted Cruz, have endorsed a gay U.S. attorney to become a federal judge in Texas. I read of this minutes after one of Sen. Jason Rapert’s overheated tweets. He wrote:

Obama’s administration takes U.S. gay rights revolution global, despite unsure welcome. ” Hoisting Rainbow flag?

Sounds like Republican colleagues Cruz and Cornyn are helping the president hoist that rainbow flag. More impeachments in order, right Bro. Rapert?

* WOMEN: State Rep. Ann Clemmer tweeted the following about the Arkansas House’s plans to meet next week in the historic Old State House:

The last time legislation was passed in this room, there were no women voters, and obviously no female Reps

I couldn’t resist reminding her that that was precisely the way those sainted founding fathers wanted it. Clemmer and Rapert and Scalia and on and on like to invoke the founding fathers when it suits — and often out of context.

My point is simple. Times change. Women are accorded equal status under the law now (in theory). Black people,  also treated as less than whole people by the founding fathers, likewise have theoretical equality.

When even a Ted Cruz and John Cornyn contribute to the march of equality for people of different sexual orientation, you can see where the latest evolution is heading.
