Secretary of State Mark Martin’s office said Alex Reed, who’s been handling internal communications, submitted a resignation letter yesterday. Today was his last day at work, though he’ll remain on the payroll for about three weeks of accumulated leave.
His resignation letter said he had career and educational opportunities he could not pass up.
Reed, who’d been the office public spokesperson, swapped jobs after getting embroiled in some political controversies. He briefly served in an interim appointment on the Pulaski County Election Commission at a time when he was still identified as treasurer for Republican Ann Clemmer’s congressional campaign. Clemmer has said Reed spent campaign money improperly on personal expenses and has since reimbursed them. He’s been unavailable for comment since the controversy developed. Martin likewise has refused comment from the first.
