I repeated verbatim yesterday a note from Asa Hutchinson’s campaign that said they’d attempted to pay in full for improper property tax exemptions he’d received, plus voluntary payments of penalties the county assessor had waived.

The note, accompanied by a letter, said:

We went down to the Pulaski County Treasurer’s office today to deliver this letter and a check, but they said they have to check their procedures before they can accept the payment.

Today, I received a note from Pulaski County Treasurer Debra Buckner:

Good morning Max,

To clarify a statement made on the blog:

No check was presented to this office yesterday.

A call was received late yesterday from Mr. Hutchinson’s aide to discuss the dollar amount, tax penalty vs. donation, and other general matters.

His aide is at the Treasury as we speak presenting a donation check of $1,750.

We welcome any donations, from anyone, at anytime in the Treasury.

The tax office is only allowed to receipt tax payments, not donations.

These are two different offices, software, audits, and processes.

We are required to follow the Assessors direction on how these rare situations are handled.

Our offices work well together on such matters.

We just now have received the letter you have published, their check, and have posted a donation to Pulaski County.

To us, the matter is closed.
