The Arkansas Republicans voted in lockstep with the House Republican majority to sue President Obama.
This Vox article is useful for understanding the lawsuit — on balance viewed as cheap theater and likely to be thrown out of court for lack of standing. Of course, with this U.S. Supreme Court you never know. Strict constructionist Antonin Scalia is among those justices who have issued the strongest warnings against such lawsuits by one arm of government against another, Vox notes. But Scalia and the other so-called conservatives are malleable when politics suit. They’ll legislate from the bench as political desires dictate.
The comic opera nature of the lawsuit is readily apparent. House Republicans are suing Obama because, among others, he’s delayed enforcement of the insurance mandate under the Affordable Care Act, the very thing they’ve been trying for five years to abolish.
Even some of the reddest of commentators have called the action foolish.
Gridlock = House Republicans.
