A previously announced apartment project on the site of the former Arkla headquarters at Capitol and River Market Avenues is now under construction. Completion is expected by spring 2015, shortly after completion of the Homewood Suites hotel under construction on the northern half of the same city block.
Moses Tucker Real Estate is developing the 59-unit MacArthur Commons project. Jamie Moses said the firm envisions the project as a “bridge” between the existing River Market development and the spurt of work underway along Main Street several blocks to the west.
AMR Architects designed the project, which will be contemporary and rise three stories to face Capitol Avenue. The building will have a brick facade, plank siding, metal panels, glass and screening to protect open-air corridors from weather. The building will have off-street parking, a fitness center and outdoor arbor with firepit, the news release said. Studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments will be included.
