The Democratic Party offers today yet another stark example of how Rep. Tom Cotton’s hard-line Club for Growth voting record — cut government spending, lower taxes on the wealthy — has consequences for Arkansas.

Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman have announced more than $500,000 in federal Economic Development Administration and HUD grants to Hot Springs to encourage an economic development strategy and improve housing.

The $200,000 EDA grant — to a city in Cotton’s district — is noteworthy.

Cotton, who’s opposing Pryor, was the lone Arkansas Republican who voted for a proposal to abolish the Economic Development Administration. Cotton has defended the vote, saying the EDA spending is wasteful and duplicative. Of the new EDA money for Hot Springs, the Democratic Party said:

That’s good news for Hot Springs and the surrounding region. However, if Congressman Cotton had gotten his way, that investment and the jobs it will create would never have happened.
