* PICKING ON COTTON: It almost becomes too easy. And Republican Rep. Tom Cotton can always throw out an excuse that his supporters will parrot. But, for the record, Democrats want you to note:

Yesterday, Sen. Mark Pryor and Republican congressmen announced that the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District would be getting a $300,000 grant to hire staff to coordinate disaster recovery in Faulkner County. Remember the Vilonia tornado?

Cotton was the only member of Congress from Arkansas to vote to eliminate the Economic Development Administration, which provided the money.

Why? The Club for Growth urged members to vote against the administration on May 28. Cotton, who is a poster boy for the Club for Growth, duly heeded his master’s voice May 29.

Vote for Cotton if you must. Just remember there is a LOT more of this where that vote came from. Real people will feel the brunt of his government-strangling to fatten the wallet of people like Steve Stephens, a major Club for Growth bankroller whose milliions come strictly from inherited wealth and who is busy trying to deny a meager increase in the minimum wage for real working people.

End of rant.

* ESCAPEE CAPTURED: Also, the Pulaski sheriff’s office said Anael Castro Hernandez, a rape suspect who escaped deputies in downtown Little Rock in August, was arrested by U.S. marshals near Kansas City today.

* SCANNER NEWS: The Little Rock City Board is having a work session today on two hot topics — Uber, cellphone-drive car service, and the encryption of police radio traffic. A Twitter feeds indicates the city is going to put out a delayed version of scanner traffic by October. I’m not sure that deals much with the loss of immediacy, though it might solve some pending FOI complaints about refusal to release the material.
