Here’s a New York Times story on how colleges are raising money for sports by selling “experiences” in on-line auctions run by an affiliate of CBS.
The coin used for the toss in an LSU game. A seat in the press box at an Alabama game. A pre-game meal with the Louisville team. Joining Auburn for the smoke-filled entrance to start a game.
The record auction price was $15,800 for sideline passes at a USC-Ohio State game.
Here’s the website. More than “experiences” are for sale. Also jerseys and other gear. The current experiences on offer aren’t scintillating — throwing out the first pitch at a Rutgers women’s softball game, for example. Also a VIP package to the Georgia-Seton Hall basketball game.
Arkansas is not listed among the schools participating in the auction site and a search shows no Arkansas item among those for sale. Not like the Hogs to miss a money opportunity.
