Buddy Bean, the owner of Stone Links golf course for the past 16 years, says the links-style course sold at auction on Dec. 11 for “a little over $2 million.” The 664-acre property on Faulkner Lake Road, which includes the 18-hole golf course, more than 100 acres of Faulkner Lake, a house, a pro shop and 300 acres of farmland, was auctioned by Fowler Auctioneers of Greenwood. A spokesman at Fowler declined to disclose the buyer, since the property won’t close until mid-January, but said he was pretty sure the property would be used as farmland.
The golf course sale has homeowners in the Stone Links subdivision worried about how their property values could be affected. “I don’t think everyone is happy about it,” said Shannon Armand, who heads the Stone Links Neighborhood Association. She said she assumed that the sale meant residents would no longer have the access to Faulkner Lake that was promised in the bills of assurance. She estimated the number of houses in the subdivision, in Phase I of its build-out, at 250.
