The independent citizens commission that is reviewing with state lawmakers, state officials and judges deserve a pay raise will meet at 8:30 a.m. today at Room 272 of the Capitol.
If there was ever a time to deploy the House equipment that allows video streaming of meetings at the Capitol, this is one of them.
Voters approved an amendment, Issue 3, that created this commission. The members were named by the governor, House and Senate leaders and chief justice. It would be educational to watch them receive information that helps them determine how much more, if any, these politicians are due. Will commissioners be inclined to charity toward those who appointed them or not?
Turn on those cameras!
Business this morning includes a presentation from veteran journalist Ernest Dumas, a Times columnist, who’s covered the Capitol for a half-century. He’s to give a history of the state’s record on official pay.
The commissioners: Barbara Graves, Brenda James, Chuck Banks, Mitch Berry, Stuart Hill, Stephen Tipton and Chair Larry Ross.
