Filing deadline is a day full of legislative mischief, such as Sen. Jason Rapert’s bill to authorize a Ten Commandments monument on the Capitol grounds, with any legal defense to be performed by a private group that works to expand the presence of religion in public life.

Rapert says the monument would be the same as one held “constitutional” in a 2005 Supreme Court decision. That was a tricky case, as you can read here. The monument in Texas includes two Stars of David. It was upheld on a plurality decision with a swing vote by Justice Breyer who went a different direction on another religious symbol case the same day.
