The list of semi-finalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship competition were released today and Little Rock Central High again produced the most in the state, 16.

Bentonville High School, the state’s largest high school, was next with 14; then Conway with 10, and Fayetteville and Cabot with nine each.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS – 17: Little Rock Central High,16, and Jacksonville High.

CHARTER SCHOOLS – 2: Lisa Academy 1, Lisa Academy North 1)

PRIVATE SCHOOLS – 13:     Little Rock Christian, 4;  Episcopal High, 3; Catholic HIgh, 2; Mt St Mary Academy,  2; Pulaski Academy,  2, and     Arkansas Baptist, 1

HOME SCHOOLED – 1

About 1 percent of the 1.5 million students who take the PSAT qualifying exam are named semifinalists. Arkansas’s 142 came from 45 high schools. Six were home-schooled.
