Politico says “chaos” erupted on the Republican National Convention floor after Trump forces, on a voice vote, turned back a rules challenge by forces opposing Trump’s nomination.
I’ll leave it to others to follow the ins and outs, but note an Arkansan figures prominently in the brouhaha:
Critics of Donald Trump had attempted to force the vote and submitted the signatures they believed were necessary to do so, but after holding a voice vote on the rules, Rep. Steve Womack declared the rules approved and moved on.
Womack left the stage amid an uproar, only to return to the stage moments later for a second voice vote. He again declared that the ‘ayes’ had won, again to protests from the crowd.
Paul Ryan is the convention chairman, but Politico said he tapped Womack, “who has a reputation for being able to manage tough floor issues,” to handle the rules votes.
Lots of hubbub on the floor apparently.
