How about a break from politics?

The Associated Press, which has been ranking college football teams for 80 years, is out with the all-time AP top 25. Here’s their formula:

To determine the all-time Top 25, the AP formula counted poll appearances (one point) to mark consistency, No. 1 rankings (two points) to acknowledge elite programs and gave a bonus for AP championships (10 points).

The Hogs made the list, ranking twenty-first. Diehard fans will note that they were robbed of 10 points under this system because the 1964 team didn’t get the AP championship despite finishing the season undefeated. Back then, the final AP poll was released prior to the bowl games; AP gave the title to Alabama, who lost their bowl game against the Texas Longhorns, a team the Hogs had beaten on the road.
