A Senate committee today approved Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s bill to end a dual holiday for Robert E. Lee and Martin Luther King Jr. and have the state holiday honor only King.

He testified for the bill, approved on a voice vote according to KARK’s Drew Petrimoulx.

I assume the Senate will pass the bill and then the third battle of Bull Run will be staged in the House committee, where similar legislation has foundered before. Confederate idolators will be out in force.

The governor said the state was harmed in the eyes of other whenever outsiders see the dual observance, posted in official government notices.
