MCFADDEN BUILDING: Eyed for police HQ use.

The Little Rock City Board will consider purchasing a building on West Markham Street for use by police headquarters.

A resolution listed on the city board’s agenda meeting Tuesday authorizes purchase of the McFadden Building at 615 W. Markham (across the street from the city court building and just east of police headquarters across the street) for $956,000. The property, according to assessor records, is owned by Eugene Pfeifer and appraised at $954,600. The records show he purchased it in 2002 for $800,000.

The proposal said the building would be renovated for headquarters use and the police property room. Money would come from a capital improvement fund created by a 2011 sales tax.  The building is 15,000 square feet.

The proposal doesn’t provide details on how this affects current headquarters or the amount that will be spent to renovate the building.

Bonus for city government wonks: Here’s a link to some $2 million in current year budget adjustments to reflect changes in anticipated revenue and expenses (notably more than $600,000 in additional police expenses for overtime and recruit bonuses and $225,000 for the consultants who will assist in planning for the 30 Crossing concrete ditch plan through the heart of downtown).
