The Arkansas highway department is asking for public comments on a recommendation by department staff for changes in highway speed limits.

The speed limit review, prompted by the legislature, proposes

* A 75 mph limit on rural interstates, up from 70.
* 65 mph limit on urban interstates
* 65 mph on rural multilane highways, with an option to lower it in some circumstances.
* 55 mph on rural highways, with an option to make it 60 where conditions warrant.
