The state Department of Health released its latest influenza report yesterday, announcing five more deaths in the state from the flu last week, bringing the total for the season to 215. The 215 influenza-related deaths include five pediatric deaths.

Since October of last year, there have been more than 53,000 positive flu tests reported. For the week ending Saturday, April 7, 30 counties reported influenza cases, with the majority of reports from Washington, Pulaski, Craighead, Benton, Faulkner, Sebastian, White, Cleburne, Jackson, Jefferson, Logan, and Lonoke.

The number of new cases of flu, however, has declined, suggesting that the season is nearing its end.
