The 600 block of Main Street has reopened, a joyful development for drivers on Main and businesses that face it, including the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Three Food Noodles and Dumpling Co., RAO Video, a new church
The reconfiguration and new paving of the block is part of a water quality demonstration project funded by a $1.072 million federal grant. The grant includes work on the 700 block, which will begin soon.
For now, the new pavers extend as far as The Rep. The street work, which includes the 100 through 500 blocks of Main, includes the extension of the sidewalks in places to “calm” traffic. When the work is complete, rain gardens will catch and filter water.
Note: An earlier version of this post said the work was done on the 300 to 500 block.
