Shannon Hills Mayor Mike Kemp has been arrested for burglary and theft of property and taken into custody, several news outlets are reporting.

Kemp also serves on the school board for the Pulaski County Special School District, representing zone 1. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office said Kemp was arrested at 11:30 a.m.

Kemp is also a member of the Pulaski County Special School District, which issued a statement saying it had been informed of Kemp’s arrest. “Needless to say, we are taken aback and are awaiting further information. … The board will monitor the situation and take appropriate steps if and when it is necessary,” the statement said.

KARK, Ch. 4, reports Kemp, 61, entered a rental property he owns and removed two televisions and a microwave belonging to a woman tenant. The tenant, Amber Rogers, told police she was behind on her rent but still making payments to “an apparent associate of Mayor Kemp.”
