It might be interesting to watch the race for mayor of Fort Smith, with a primary election in August.

Democratic State Rep. George McGill, Wayne Haver, retired principal of Southside High School, and Luis Andrade, a 22-year-old student at UA-Fort Smith, are running to succeed Sandy Sanders. Mayor is a figurehead job in Fort Smith, which has a city administrator form of government.

Andrade, a naturalized citizen who was born in Brazil, has called himself a visionary and attracted attention for his Trumpian assault on the “status quo.” A sewer rate increase and school taxes have stirred voters.

I was interested in Andrade’s “victory day kit” photo posted on his Facebook campaign page. Dom Perignon to celebrate in working-class Fort Smith? Comments indicate the photo was enough to bring some voters on board. MFSGA.
