A DOUBLE DOSE: Jeff Sessions has a couple of events in Arkansas Wednesday.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who we’d already said would be at Lake Hamilton schools Wednesday with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to talk up more armed staff in schools, also plans a stop in Little Rock to talk crime.

He will hold a news conference at 10:50 a.m. at U.S. Attorney Cody Hiland’s office in Little Rock to talk about efforts to combat violent crime. This will be a press event only.

I hope someone asks about the “religious freedom task force” he announced today. It’s a holy war on LGBT people. Sessions believes that it abridges religious freedom if you can’t discriminate against LGBTQ people.

Sessions’ aims have wide-ranging peril — from employment to police-community relations and more, much more. For example, consider the plight of the elderly.

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement of a so-called Religious Liberty Task Force at the Department of Justice is one more effort by this Administration to obliterate anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people,” stated Michael Adams, CEO of SAGE. “LGBT elders – who rely on religiously affiliated providers for non-discriminatory care — have played a huge role in the ‘changing cultural climate’ that the Attorney General condemns. They will not go back into the closet so that this Administration can pander to the forces of intolerance and bigotry,” added Adams.

Because 85 percent of nonprofit continuing care retirement communities are religiously affiliated, the federal government’s approach poses a grave threat to LGBT elders who need care, as highlighted in Dignity Denied: Religious Exemptions and LGBT Elder Services, a recent report by SAGE, the Movement Advancement Project (MAP), and Columbia Law School’s Public Rights/Private Conscience Project.

The horrors of the Trump administration are unceasing and universal. If we somehow were rid of Trump, Mike Pence would be even worse.
